Caregiving

There are over 44 million caregivers in the United States. One in 5 employees are caring for a loved one and this is rapidly trending toward 1 in 3 employees. Thirty five percent of caregivers report health has worsened due to their responsibilities. Levels of depression, workday loss, peace of mind, and health impacts are often severe. More than half (53%) of Americans with at least one parent age 65 and older who requires some help say caring for their parents is stressful.

Parenting

There are about 12 million single parent families with children under age 18. More than 80% were headed by single mothers with two thirds working outside of home. One out of every 25 U.S. families with children have an adopted child. There are over 4 million births per year and 1.5 million to new mothers.

Grief and Loss

Eight million people suffered the death of someone in their immediate family last year. The Grief and Recovery Institute estimate the cost of grief in the workplace at over $75 Billion annually. One in 4 employees are grieving at any given time. The prolonged emotional impact of grief, while a normal response and not an illness itself; can lead to multiple health consequences when unsupported.

Life Transition

Over 44 million men and women are between 50 and 59 years old in U.S.
45% adults over 50 are employed. Research shows purpose and life fulfillment lead to health and life longevity. There are approximately 1.2 million divorces each year with an average age of 42 for women and 45 for men.

First Responders & Military/Armed Services

The U.S. Army has 490,046 active duty and 557,246 reserve and national guard. The U.S. Air Force has 309,339 active duty, 74,400 reserve, and 106,700 air national guard. The U.S. Navy has 326,046 active duty, and 107,115 reserve. Under the Department of the Navy, the U.S. Marines have 194,000 active duty and 40,000 reserve. The total size is approximately 2,204,892 counting both reserve and active duty of all branches.

Cancer

About 226,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year. Lung Cancer is the number one cancer killer with 223,000 diagnosed and 156,000 deaths. Prostate Cancer and Colon Cancer have a combined number of 296,000 diagnoses and 76,000 deaths. Over 1 million will be considered ‘clear’ after a 5-year journey.
